Did noted Republican Martin Luther King, Jr. devise the GOP’s “Southern Strategy”?

“Some Republicans gave up on winning the African-American vote, looking the other way or trying to benefit politically from racial polarization,” [Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman] said at the annual convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. “I am here today as the Republican chairman to tell you we were wrong.”

    king was a windbag who never “devised” anything, obama is following in his footsteps with speeches full of flowery language aspirations and rhetoric but little (if any) substance

    He was not a Republican and Nixon came up with the “Southern Strategy” to pick up the Dixie-crats who left the Democrats after the Civil Rights Act was passed.
